Shrine Club’s New Year’s party aids effort

Local residents can ring in the new year with dinner, dancing and a band while helping an organization at the same time.

The Rolling Hills Shrine Club in North Vernon is hosting a public New Year’s Eve party that at the same time will help it replace some of its parade cars.

“It’s been a long time since we have had a New Year’s dance at the club, but we thought it would be a fun way to raise some money to help replace the parade cars that were stolen from us last summer,” club manager Mike Kelley said.

“We had four cars stolen the night before a big parade. Thanks to Pearson’s body shop we’ve been able to rebuild three old ones, but we still need parts that all cost money. We want to have the cars ready for the parades this spring,” he added.

The doors of the Rolling Hills Shrine Club will open at 6 p.m. Dec. 31. A cash bar will be available starting at 6.

Dinner will be served from 7 to 8:30, and the meal will be catered by Rosie’s Off Road Diner. The menu includes chicken Marsala, glazed pork loin, garlic Parmesan spaghetti, whipped potatoes, roasted vegetables, salad, rustic bread and butter, and a caramel apple bread pudding for dessert.

Elaine Basham and Tracy Thompson will provide music through dinner. The dance will begin when the Keith Swinney Band starts playing at about 9 p.m.

A complimentary glass of champagne will be served at midnight, and the band will play until about 1 a.m.

Tickets are $25 per person and include everything except drinks from the cash bar.

“We are planning a casual night of good food and music for everyone to enjoy at an affordable price,” Kelley said.

Kelly recommended people buy tickets to the dinner and dance prior to Dec. 31.
