Empty Bowls to continue on with new volunteers

A new group of community leaders hopes to keep the annual Empty Bowls food pantry fundraiser alive — and aims to meet at 5 p.m. today at Love Chapel Ministries at 311 Center St. in Columbus to begin the planning process.

Kelly Daugherty, executive director of Love Chapel, one of the beneficiaries of the event, is leading the re-organization for now. Previous organizers announced recently that they were stepping aside because of other responsibilities and that the event would not be held in February as normal.

Daugherty hopes a new group can keep the event on the calendar.

“I was saddened to hear of the possible end of Empty Bowls and I know firsthand of the good that Empty Bowls has done to bring awareness to hunger over the many years,” Daugherty said.
