Tickets are still available for Thursday night’s March of Dimes Signature Chefs Gala.

The gala supports the fight to end premature births, what the organization says is the most significant health threat to moms and babies everywhere.

This year’s event, at the Factory 12 Event Loft in downtown Columbus, will feature signature dishes created by chefs from Columbus-area restaurants including Upland Columbus Pump house, Catering by Karr, Blackerby’s Hangar 5 and Gramz Bakery. The March of Dimes Signature Chefs event begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

A Columbus family, the Roggows, will represent March of Dimes as this year’s ambassador family. Philip and Amanda Roggow had their first micropreemie in 2005. Zander Edward was born at 26 weeks, weighing 1 pound, 12 ounces and measuring 13 inches, according to the March of Dimes website.

Zander spent 109 days in the NICU before stabilizing enough to go home. A few months after Zander turned 4 years old in 2009, his brother, Quinn Walter, was born at 23 weeks, five days gestation, weighing 1 pound, 3 ounces and measuring just 11 inches long.

Quinn’s journey home included three NICUs, five surgeries and even the H1N1 virus over the next 145 days. Just before Quinn was born, Zander began having multiple seizures a day and was hospitalized as well during Quinn’s NICU stay.

On Superbowl Sunday in 2010, Quinn and Zander finally met for the first time when Quinn was released from his third and final NICU stay, five months after his birth. Both brothers endured countless surgeries, ventilators, blood transfusions and more over their hospitalizations.

The family has since expanded to include two more brothers, Kaleb and Wyatt, adopted in 2017, according to the March of Dimes website. Their story will be shared at the event.

Proceeds from Thursday’s event will go toward March of Dimes research, education and support services to help premature babies survive and thrive.
