Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies and the U.S. Marshal Service conducted a county-wide surprise check on the county’s registered sex offenders.

On Thursday, the checks were made on about 100 registered sex offenders in Bartholomew County to determine the validity of information provided by the individuals who are listed in the Bartholomew County Sex Offender Registry.

Adolfo “Rudy” Olivo, a former detective lieutenant with the Columbus Police Department, is the Sex Offender coordinator for the sheriff department, coordinating the sex offender registration in compliance with state laws.

Convicted sex offenders are required to report any residential and/or employment changes to the sheriff’s department within 72 hours of the change.

On Thursday, four individuals were found to be out of compliance with the terms of their registry. These individuals could face additional charges, deputies said.

One arrest was made during the sweep when an offender was found to be in possession of marijuana.

“Many people don’t realize that local sheriffs maintain and update sex offender registration information,” said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers. “Monitoring sex offenders, running the offender registration and profiles, making door-to-door check-ins, is a very labor intensive and time consuming effort.”
