Jets fall to 3A No. 8 Greensburg

HOPE — Right from the opening tip, Greensburg showed why it is one of the top teams in Class 3A.

The 3A No. 8 Pirates poured on the scoring early and often to give Hauser a 94-49 boys basketball loss on Friday night.

The Jets showed a little bit of fight early on that caught Greensburg off guard when it led 8-5. The lead evaporated fast when the Pirates scored nine straight points to lead 14-8.

Later in the quarter, with Greensburg leading 19-14, the Pirates went on a 10-0 run, but a Jackson Paradise 3-point shot at the buzzer cut the deficit to 29-17 after the first quarter.

“I thought that we executed to start the game really well. We got the ball where we needed to get it,” Hauser coach Joe Sibbitt said. “We took care of the basketball, and we didn’t have as many turnovers for the first four to five minutes. There was nothing negative to say on that end.”

That would be as close as the Jets (4-6) would get the rest of the game. Greensburg (7-2) outscored Hauser 27-9 in the second quarter to lead 56-26 at halftime.

“I think tonight was the best that we’ve shared the basketball,” Greensburg coach Stacy Meyer said. “We knocked our shots down, but we got the right shots and the right looks.”

The Pirates led 81-38 after the third quarter, and both teams emptied its benches to start the fourth.

“We have to learn to work harder in a zone sometimes to get stops,” Sibbitt said. “We just weren’t there defensively tonight. They’re a very good team, and they had a lot to do with it, as well.”

Greensburg’s top player and Wright State commit Andrew Welage finished with a game-high 27 points. Lane Sparks finished with 18, while Miles Wilkison added 17.

Bryce Bates led the Jets with 22 points, and Paradise added 10.
