HOPE — Although Flat Rock-Hawcreek Schools will remain closed through May 1, online learning will take place, and the corporation will continue to deliver iPads to students on Monday and Tuesday.
The entire school campus is closed, and neither students nor parents will be permitted on site, FHSC superintendent Shawn Price said. However, students will receive instruction from home through the FHSC e-learning platform starting Wednesday, Price said.
Children in grades 5 through 12 should already have iPads, but any student who left their computer on campus should call their school to make arrangements to have their iPads delivered to them. The phone number for Hauser Jr.-Sr. High School is 812-546-4421, while staff at Hope Elementary can be reached at 812-546-5001.
Students in grades K-4 who ride the bus will have iPads and e-Learning materials delivered to them via school bus on Monday morning. Parents should be watching for the bus between 9 and 11 a.m. If your child has a bus stop that includes multiple students, you are asked to stay in your car when possible until the bus stops.
In-district car riders will have their iPads delivered to their primary residence on Monday between the hours of 1 and 4 p.m. If no one is available between the hours, call 812-546-4922 to make arrangements for delivery.
Out of district students will have their computers delivered Tuesday. A representative will call these students to set up a time.
Starting Wednesday, elementary teachers will be posting three days of e-learning lessons per week for students to complete. The intent is that students can complete assignments on the days that make the most sense for each family.
Hauser teachers have been encouraged to post weekly lessons that allow work to be completed over that same time of period. However, the older students may be given specific deadlines to complete the work.
If a student does not receive their iPad and e-learning materials prior to March 25th, school officials say you will not fall behind and a staff member will get the resources to you as soon as possible. Those without internet access are asked to call 812-546-4922 and leave a detailed message for assistance.
In other developments, there will be no Istep, IRead or ILearn testing, and all athletic practices and competitions are canceled until May 4th at this time.
