COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bravo, a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department K-9, is having a second knee surgery Thursday.
Bravo’s handler, Deputy Leah Burton, will be working with the dog on rehabilitation following surgery. The Belgian Malinois, who has been in service since September 2019, had surgery on his other knee two weeks ago.
The K9 joined the department last year in September and has participated in five foot chases, nearly 90 drug arrests and multiple warrant services.
The commissioners retroactively approved the expenditures for the first surgery out of the sheriff’s department budget. Although the department did not request donations, several people called and emailed wanting to assist, the department said. Information regarding how to donate to the department’s K9 Fund has been posted on the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page.
