The superintendent of Edinburgh schools will retire at the end of the school year.
Super intendent Doug Arnold, who joined Edinburgh Community Schools at the start of the 2018-19 school year, is nearing the end of his three-year contract, and school board members are beginning the process to find a replacement.
Arnold has been an educator for 46 years in 10 school districts across Indiana and Ohio. He said the education world is without an equal, and during his time at Edinburgh schools, he is most proud of East Side Elementary becoming STEM certified.
The Indiana Department of Education certified the school in October for its focus on science, technology, engineering and math, making it the first elementary school in Johnson or Bartholomew counties to accomplish that.
“I’m proud of the work that was done through grants and a lot of work by teachers, administrators and outside personnel helping us become STEM certified and what it will mean in the future in getting the middle school and high school certified,” Arnold said.
