Bull Dogs set records

SEYMOUR — Two Columbus North juniors set school records Tuesday in the Bull Dog boys’ 102-30 win at Seymour.

Tucker Smith threw 66 feet, 9 1/2 inches in the shot put, breaking his own record that he set in last week’s season opener. Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff set another record with a 1-minute, 52.82-second clocking in the 800 meters.

Smith also won the discus (150-11). Other winners for the Bull Dogs were Bryant Trinkle in the long jump (19-8), Alex Navarez in the 100 (11.18), Will Russell in the 1,600 (4:42.0), Reed Duncan in the 400 (54.52), Jack Wright in the 300 hurdles (43.80), Noah Abfall in the 200 (9:44.0) and Austin Pulkowski in the 3,200 (9:44.0). North swept the 4×800 (9:35.34), 4×100 (45.32) and 4×400 (3:44.0) relays.

Emily Herndon won the shot (41-6) and discus (115-4) to lead the Bull Dogs girls to an 86-45 victory. Other winners for the Bull Dogs were Bailey Miley in the pole vault (8-0), Helena Ho on the 100 (12.16), Helen Alderfer in the 400 (1:02.33), Ava Collier in the 300 hurdles (50.86), La’Monica Smith in the 200 (26.84) and Alyssa Green in the 3,200 (11:47.0). North also took the 4×800 (9:22.07) and 4×400 (4:22.0) relays.

East sweeps Shelbyville

Columbus East swept a dual meet from Shelbyville on Tuesday, winning the boys contest 99-24 and the girls meet 116-14.

Katie Hagan led the girls with wins in the pole vault (8-0), 100 hurdles (17.41) and 300 hurdles (52.68), while Jordan Sims took the 100 (13.59) and 200 (28.53). Other winners for the Olympians were Elise LaSell in the long jump (14-5), Jaylyn Nelson in the shot (30-11), Caitlyn Lucas in the discus (103-4), Chloe Krueger in the 1,600 (5:44.84), Jenna Guse in the 400 (1:06.50), Olivia Shoaf in the 800 (2:47.83) and Carly Otte in the 3,200 (13:26.40). East also swept the 4×800 (11:12.39), 4×100 (53.26) and 4×400 (4:26.94) relays.

Crase Bergman led the Olympian boys with wins in the long jump (21-9) and 200 (23.88). Other winners were Elliot Koopman in the high jump (5-8), Mark McDonald in the shot (42-4), Jesse Miller in the discus (123-6), Charlie Russell in the 110 hurdles (17.43), Ethan Duncan in the 100 (11.83), Cayden Lynott in the 1,600 (5:43.09), Tyler Thompson in the 400 (55.61) and Henrique Carvalho in the 300 hurdles (46.20). East also captured the 4×100 (44.44) and 4×400 (3:42.38) relays.

Cougars tame Tigers

CROTHERSVILLE — South Decatur swept Crothersville on Tuesday, winning the boys meet 98-24 and the girls contest 75-43.

For the boys, Kelby Shook won the high jump (5-4) and long jump (17-5), Ian Frensemeier took the shot (41-11) and discus (116-1) and Campbell Johannigman captured the 110 hurdles (20.3) and 300 hurdles (54.3). Trevor Newby won the 1,600 (5;25), Isaac Gasper took the 800 (2:25.6), Corbin Mitchell captured the 200 (25.7) and the Cougars swept the 4×800 (10:03), 4×100 (50.0) and 4×400 (4:12) relays.

Lana Bell won the high jump (4-8) and discus (83-11), and Brayley Sundal took the 100 (13.5) and 200 (29.3) to lead the girls. Kate Hamilton captured the 400 (1:14.4), Maria Nobbe won the 300 hurdles (56.4), Bridget Nobbe took the 3,200 (15:04) and South Decatur swept the 4×800 (12:21), 4×100 (59.45) and 4×400 (5:10.5) relays.

Olympians rout Cubs

MADISON — Harry Major threw a one-hit shutout, and Kaden Wise went 4 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and two RBIs Wednesday to lead Columbus East to a 14-0, five-inning win at Madison.

Clayton Taylor went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Olympians (3-4-1), who pounded out 15 hits as a team. Josh Luedeke had a double and three RBIs, and Ben Major added two RBIs.

Pioneers top Panthers

CLARKSVILLE — Jennings County outhit Providence 15-5 Wednesday, but the Pioneers won 15-5 in six innings.

Logan McIntosh went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Panthers (1-2). Carson McNulty went 2 for 3 with a double, and Jacob Vogel went 2 for 4 with a double.

Panthers blank East

Columbus East won only four games in the five matches Wednesday in a 5-0 loss to Bloomington North.

Ayano Nomura fell to Alex Shirley 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Cathrine Millwood lost to Bella Winkler 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Ruth Federle lost to Lucy Smith 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (1-4).

East’s Shruthika Kumar and Cassidy Schnur lost to Brooke Bailey and Keira Murphy 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Monica Burton and Katey Rieckers fell to Ellie Bruce and Siggy Force 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Dragons edge Panthers

SELLERSBURG — Jennings County scored four times in the top of the sixth to take a 4-1 lead, but Silver Creek answered with five in the bottom of the inning and went on to post a 6-4 win.

Taylor Mowery had a home run and three RBIs for the Panthers (3-6). Ashley Meade also homered.

Eagles fall to Patriots

SPENCER — Owen Valley scored 10 times in the first inning and went on to hand Brown County a 17-1, five-inning loss in their Western Indiana Conference opener.

The Eagles fell to 0-5 overall.
