Bull Dogs bounce Cougars

EDINBURGH — Eighth-ranked Columbus North had a chance to see the course it will play in Monday’s Conference Indiana Tournament and posted a 294-340 win against Bloomington North at Timbergate.

Five Bull Dogs broke 75. Jacob Niedbalski and Aditya Banerjee tied for medalist honors with 73s.

Luke Schneider, Tyler Wilks and Jack Schiavello all shot 74 for the Bull Dogs. Luke VanDeventer added a 79, and Willy Davis had an 88.

Panthers edge Jets

Jennings County and Hauser each finished with team scores of 192, and Trinity Lutheran’s Jacob Sabotin won medalist honors with a 41 in a tri match at Otter Creek.

The Panthers, who won the tiebreaker because of a better fifth score, were led by a 44 from Bret Silvey. Jack George and Jake Grider each shot 49, Rowan Cook carded a 50, Nick Brewer added a 51 and Tanner Stearns had a 52.

Chase Martoccia and Justice Gilliland each shot 45 to lead the Jets. Caleb Wallace added a 48, Daniel Taylor and Jesse Bragg each shot 54 and Brock Thalls had a 58.

Cade Hill carded a 47 for the Cougars. Caleb Williams added a 55, and Preston Kovener had a 57.

TRACK AND FIELD

East boys third in HHC

BEDFORD — Columbus East finished third and Jennings County fourth in the Hoosier Hills Conference boys meet. New Albany won with 174 points to 152 1/2 for Floyd Central, 89 for East and 61 for Jennings.

Anthony Lloyd won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches, and Sean Ryan, Crase Bergman, Ethan Duncan and Malachi Parks took the 4×400 meter relay in 3 minutes, 31.25 seconds to lead the Olympians. Bergman finished second in the long jump (22-1) and 200 (23.17), and East took second in the 4×100 relay (43.67). Jacob Guse was third in the shot put (42-8 1/2).

Zane Ortlieb placed second in the discus (145-8) and third in the shot put (46-6) to lead Jennings. The Panthers finished second in the 4×800 relay (8:24.24).

BASEBALL

Jets blank Cougars

GREENSBURG — Eli Miller smacked a grand slam, and Koby Johnson and Owen McIntyre combined on a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts to lead Class A No. 10 Hauser to a 9-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at South Decatur.

Aaron Rork went 2 for 3 with a double for the Jets (13-8, 7-1). Devin Pate and Ben Stier combined on a six-hitter for the Cougars (8-8, 5-4), who were plagued by eight errors.

SOFTBALL

Jets run-rule Cougars

GREENSBURG — Paige McDaniel and Kaydence Gates combined on a six-hitter, and Hauser posted a 16-2, five-inning MHC win at South Decatur.

Morgan Bottoms went 3 for 4, and Hannah Taylor went 3 for 5 with a double and four RBIs for the Jets (18-2, 6-1). McDaniel went 2 for 3, Reagan Johnson went 2 for 4, Kyra Meister went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Zoee Nading had two RBIs.

Erynn Dyer went 2 for 3 for the Cougars (4-11, 2-4).

Eagles fall in five

BLOOMINGTON — Brown County trailed only 2-0 after two innings, but Bloomington North pulled away for a 13-2, five-inning victory.

Lexie Austin went 2 for 2, and Savannah Oden had a home run and two RBIs for the Eagles (0-12).

Owls top Lancers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh pounded out nine hits, including three home runs, but dropped a 15-4, five-inning decision to Seymour.

Gracie Crawhorn went 3 for 3 with a home run, and Kaitlyn Bailey went 2 for 3 with two homers and three RBIs for the Lancers (10-9).

GIRLS TENNIS

Jets down Spartans

HOPE — Southwestern (Shelby) won the No. 1 singles match, but Hauser took the other four to claim a 4-1 MHC victory.

Bella Kilps blanked Lauryn Blondell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Kaitlynn Everroad beat Brooklyn Schneider 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (8-5, 3-1). Aunaka Wasil and Emily Harker topped Sydney Ebersold and McKinley Correll 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Charlie Clark and Gabby Johns downed Ella Rice and Faith Kelley 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Hauser’s Andie Clark fell to Kayla Robertson 4-6, 6-3, (10-3) at No. 1 singles.

Lancers nip Lutheran

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh swept the singles matches in a 3-2 win against Indianapolis Lutheran.

Annelise Lollar beat Ella Wiegand 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Bethany Burton topped Allie Templin 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Jessica Walsh downed Katie Roe 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (4-9).

Edinburgh’s Alyssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryant fell to Jocey Sneed and Cece Awrey 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Zoey Sida and Gracie Myers lost to Rachel Bolton and Malin Bullock 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Arrows sweep Eagles

SULLIVAN — Sullivan won all five matches in straight sets to hand Brown County a 5-0 Western Indiana Conference defeat.

Julia Williams was trailing Hanna Burkhardt 6-1, 4-0 when she injury defaulted. Anna Tipton fell to Paige Chickadaunce 6-1, 6-2, and Anna Stogsdill lost to Annie Smith 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (7-8, 4-4).

Brown County’s Londyn Koester and Katie Tipton fell to Peyton Sisil and Sarah Francis 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Mattie Satter and Julia Burt lost to Lexie Baker and Courtney Lueking 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
