Three members of the HHC champion Columbus East girls basketball team have been named to this year’s All-Conference squad, and Olympians coach Danny Brown is the HHC Coach of the Year.
East senior Koryn Greiwe and juniors Saige Stahl and Leah Bachmann are joined on the first team by Jennings County sophomores Juliann Woodard and Alivia Elmore. East senior Harley Gant and Jennings senior Lily Ernstes made honorable mention.
Locals named All-MHC
Hauser sophomore Madelyn Poe has been selected to this year’s All-Mid-Hoosier Conference girls basketball team.
The Jets’ Kyliegh Parrott and Gabby Johns are honorable mention selections. Edinburgh’s Alyssa Funkhouser and Gracie Crawhorn and South Decatur’s Loryn Pate also made honorable mention.
Sitterding to Indiana Tech
Columbus East senior Julia Sitterding has committed to continue her softball career at Indiana Tech.
Sitterding batted .378 with 12 doubles, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored last season. However, she plans to run track instead of playing softball for the Olympians this spring in hopes of increasing her speed for college softball.
Basketball games switched
The Columbus North at Franklin boys basketball game scheduled for Saturday has been postponed to Monday because the Franklin girls will be playing in the semistate on Staturday evening.
Also, the Edinburgh at Brown County boys basketball game scheduled for Feb. 24 will be varsity-only with a 6:30 p.m. start.
Gymnastics regional moved
The gymnastics regional that has traditionally been hosted by Columbus East will be hosted by Franklin Central this year. The regional meet will be at 5 p.m. Feb. 4 at The Gymnastics Company in Indianapolis.
“This has been a two-year ongoing discussion,” East athletics director Pete Huse said. “We’ve been working with Franklin Central and the IHSAA on this. Franklin Central has been asking and wanting to do it, and we wanted to give them the opportunity to host. We’ve been doing it for 50 years, so if another school wants to take their turn, we’re more than willing to oblige.”
East still will host the sectional at 1 p.m. Feb. 26.
