Twenty Bartholomew County students served as pages at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the recently concluded session of the Indiana General Assembly.
State Sen. Greg Walker (R-Columbus) welcomed 13 students from Columbus to serve as Senate pages in February. The pages were:
Rosie Brockhaus, Gracie Collier, Caroline Crawford, Warren Frisbie, Reese Gayman, Hadley McQueary, Vivian Pumphrey, Rajvi Sapkal, Aarohi Sharma and Alisha Singh, from ABC-Stewart School; Kaylee Maschino of Columbus, Franklin Community High School; and Josephine Steinmetz and Samuel Steinmetz, St. Bartholomew Catholic School.
Also, State Rep. Ryan Lauer (R-Columbus) and State Rep. Sean Eberhart (R-Shelbyville) welcomed students who participated in the Indiana House Page Program. They included:
Ivan Bondar, from Columbus East High School; Alison Clauss of Columbus, from Greenwood Christian Academy; Umairo Ghazanova, from Columbus Signature Academy New Tech High School; Alex Sinchevici of Columbus, who attends Hauser Jr./Sr. High School in Hope; and Hauser students Yuliia Karkusha, Valeska Lopes and Cephus Zulu.
Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates and interacting with their state senator or representative.
“I have enjoyed meeting many students from Senate District 41 who wish to expand their knowledge of the legislative process,” Walker said. “The Senate Page Program is a great way for our youth to learn about state government and build a strong habit of civil engagement.”
“This is a great experience for students to go behind the scenes and learn more about how state government works,” Lauer said. “I encourage more young Hoosiers to come to the Statehouse next session and be a page for a day.”
