Judith R. Jones

LAS VEGAS

Judith Records Jones passed away peacefully on March 25, 2022, with two generations of family by her side.

Judy was born in Franklin, Indiana, on April 30, 1938, to Dr. Arthur Wilson and Ruth Merritt Records. After graduating from Franklin Community High School, Judy attended Indiana University for a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. As a member of the Tri Delta sorority, she made lifelong friendships.

Judy was preceded in death by the love of her life, Harold V. Jones, Jr. (Bud). They began dating in the ninth grade and married when Judy graduated college in 1960. Judy earned her Master’s Degree while teaching second grade in Indianapolis as Bud attended law school.

It is from her father that Judy learned her love of golf. An avid player, Judy won the Hillview Country Club Golf Championship in Franklin in 1954, 1956, 1958, 1964, and 1965 before moving to Columbus. As a member of the HLCC Women’s Golf Association, Judy continued her winning streak with Harrison Lake Country Club Championship wins in 1965, 1967, 1969, 1971, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1985, 1987, and 2000.

Additionally, Judy loved her family at First Christian Church. She was a longtime primary Sunday school teacher, a member of the Berean Sunday School class, the FCC Women’s Bible Study, and the Bible Study Fellowship group, and taught a young married class. The Emmaus community was also significant to her. Her group met regularly and faithfully to encourage each other in their walk of Christ.

Judy loved to serve her community and was on the Bartholomew County Library Board for over thirty years. She was a board member for the Nugent Foundation and was on the Golf Fundraiser Committee for the Pregnancy Care Center (now Clarity) for many years. Judy’s warmth and kindness ensured that she never met a stranger.

Judy was passionate about gardening, and her Nellie’s Best tomatoes continue to be grown by family members. Springtime was set aside for mushroom hunting, with her luckiest spots kept secret. The beach was another favorite spot for Judy, with much vacation time earmarked for walking the beach at her vacation home in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

However, Judy’s greatest love was her family. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren, eating ice cream, making her famous eggrolls, showing off her hula hoop skills, and playing Clair de Lune on the piano.

Judy is survived by her son, Trent Records Jones, daughter, Jennifer Jones Guia and husband, Carlos Humberto Guia, grandchildren, Annie and Turner Jones, and Spencer and Madeline Guia, sister-in-law, Pamela Winslow Records, nieces, Jill Records Kirk, and Mikki Records Owens, and nephew Andrew Miller.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, brother, Dr. John Merritt Records, sister, Alyse Records Rives, and nephews, Mark Stevens Records, John Movius Records, and Conrad Miller.

The family would be honored if, in lieu of flowers, friends consider donating to Friends of First Christian Church Architecture.

The memory of Judy will live in the hearts of those who knew her forever. A celebration of life will take place at Harrison Lake Country Club on Thursday, June 30, from 4 to 7 pm. The family invites all who knew Judy to attend.
