COLUMBUS
Dr. Jon W. Holdread, 79, of Columbus passed from this life at 3:22 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at GreenTree At Westwood in Columbus.
Dr. Holdread was born March 3, 1944, in Goshen, Indiana, the son of Gordon W. and Arlene Yoder Holdread.
On November 3, 1968, he married Judy D. Emerson.
He was a 1966 graduate of Wabash College, a 1970 graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine, he went on to serve his internship and residency at Indiana University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry. Upon his residency he went on to be a staff Psychiatrist at Quinco Consulting Center from 1973-1976, he then went on to own his own private practice- Psychiatric Associates for close to 35 years and retired from Centerstone.
He enjoyed working with and teaching fellow students in the medical field, including being the Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, examiner for clinical exams for psychiatric residents, and Instructor for “Introduction to Medicine” for freshman medical students. Dr. Holdread held numerous organizations dear to his heart including being a Past President of the Bartholomew/Brown County Medical Society, Indiana Psychiatric Society- where he held numerous offices,
Indiana State Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, and Central Neuropsychiatric Society.
Throughout his time practicing in Columbus, he served on numerous boards at Columbus Regional Hospital such as Chief of Neurology and Psychiatry, Medical Director of Psychiatric Service Line, Patient Care Committee, Hospital Foundation board member and medical staff representative, and Physicians Assistance Committee to name a few.
Dr. Holdread was very active in the community and enjoyed being involved in various organizations such as: Medical Advisory Committee to Bartholomew County School Board, Advisory Board at Turning Point Women’s Shelter, Columbus Rotary Club in which he held various offices, Foundation for Youth Board, Wabash College Alumni Representative, Certified timer for the Indiana Swimming Certification, President of the Board for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, among many other. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and also enjoyed bicycling and racing at the Indianapolis Velodrome.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Judy Holdread of Columbus; children, Kevin (Maria) Holdread of St. Augustine, Florida, Jennifer (David) King of Columbus, Brooke (Mike) Burchyett of Columbus; grandchildren, Mason King, Claire King, Lyla Deweese; and a sister, Barbara Adams of Phoenix, Arizona; brother-in-law, Steven (Ruth) Emerson of DeBary, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with Dr. Holdread’s wishes, cremation will take place.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Rev. Felipe Martinez.
Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation following the service in The Laws Room.
Services are entrusted to Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home.
Private inurnment will take place at the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium.
In memory of Dr. Holdread memorial contributions may be given through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, First Presbyterian Church Foundation or Journey North Care Management.
