BROWNSTOWN  State District 69 Rep. Jim Lucas of Seymour, who was arrested for operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a wreck on Interstate 65 at Jonesville on May 31, is scheduled in front of Jackson Superior Court II Judge Bruce MacTavish at 3 p.m. today, the Seymour Tribune reported.

According to an Indiana State Police report of the incident, Lucas drove nearly 3 miles awayfrom a crash scene  with three busted tires  after he allegedly struck two guardrails anddrove the wrong way on an interstate entrance ramp.

Operating while intoxicated as a first offense with no endangerment is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by up to 60 days in jail, while the leaving the scene of an accident charge is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail.

Lucas, a Republic, represents a district that includes portions of Bartholomew, Jackson, Scott and Washington counties.
