COLUMBUS, INDIANA
Joan L. Eaton, 87, of Columbus, passed from this life at 10:22 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Eaton was born April 26, 1936, in Wabash, Indiana, the daughter of Ralph H. and Mary Wilson Clupper.
She married Reaugh Eaton December 27, 1963; he preceded her in death September 15, 2016.
Mrs. Eaton received a Bachelor of Science in home economics from Purdue University in 1958 and she went on to receive her master’s degree from Indiana University in 1962.
Mrs. Eaton was a middle school guidance counselor for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation retiring after 23 years of service. She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church.
Joan Eaton’s impact on the lives of those around her is evident in the heartfelt words shared over the years by her students, friends, and family. Her dedication as an educator left a lasting impression on her students, providing them with comfort and guidance during challenging times. Her ability to listen and offer counsel made her a trusted confidant to her friends, always making time for them. Joan’s prayer journals serve as a testament to her unwavering support and love for her family, as she lifted them up in private. Her hospitality was renowned, as she and her husband, Reaugh, warmly welcomed everyone into their home, sharing delicious homecooked meals. To her family, Joan was not just a mother, nana, aunt, sister-in-law, and mother-in-law, but a source of strength, humility, unconditional love, happiness, and friendship. Her presence in their lives is her legacy, as she touched their hearts in immeasurable ways. As Joan Eaton enters Heaven, she takes with her the peace and joy that she shared with all those fortunate enough to know her.
Her life will be cherished by her daughters, Stephanie Eaton of Atlanta, Georgia and Christine (Bryan) Pearson of Columbus; grandchildren, Morgan (Josh) Hall, Tristan (Amanda) Burkholder, Nicholi Burkholder, Matthew Primiano and Andrew Primiano; bonus grandchildren, Madissen Pearson and Matthew Pearson; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Eaton was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reaugh; great-granddaughter, Rudy Burkholder; and her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Barbara Clupper.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, at First Christian Church;
Steve Yeaton and Milo Smith will officiate. Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. A private committal service will be held at the Garland Brook Cemetery with inurnment to follow next to her husband.
