A fast-moving storm packing high winds that passed through Bartholomew County on Thursday afternoon left thousands of electric utility customers without power.

The following closings have been announced for the July 4th holiday on Tuesday

• Bartholomew County offices are closed Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4 for the holiday. This includes the Bartholomew County Courthouse and the county office building.
• Columbus City Hall is closed Tuesday, July 4 for the holiday.
• There will be no Columbus city trash collections on Tuesday, July 4. Collections will be on a one-day delay after the holiday, with Friday, July 7 collections moved to Saturday, July 8. Toters should be out by 7 a.m. The Department of Public Works offices will be closed on July 4th but will reopen at 7 a.m. July 5.
• The Columbus City Utilities will be closed July 4 with regular business hours resuming at 7 a.m. July 5. Customers with a problem with water or sewer service should call the business office at 812-372-8861 and follow the prompts.
• The Republic will be closed July 4th to allow its employees to enjoy the holiday with their families. The office will reopen at 8 a.m. July 5. There will be no interruption in the publication schedule as The Republic publishes on July 4th.

Crews working on the NexusPark project have started constructing the second of two 15-foot-deep storm water retention areas on the former mall property.
