Bull Dogs win indoor meet

INDIANAPOLIS — The Columbus North boys track team won the team title at a Hoosier State Relays qualifier Saturday at University of Indianapolis.

The Bull Dogs scored 77 points to 46 for runner-up Ben Davis. North’s girls finished fifth with 43 points in a meet won by Warren Central with 62.

Mitchell Burton (21 feet, 5 3/4 inches) and Alex Algee (21-5) went 1-2 in the long jump, and Chase Ballard (9 minutes, 39.25 seconds) and Ben Rankin (9:49.94) finished 1-2 in the 3,200 to lead the boys. Elijah Brooks, Alex Davidson, Joe Wright and Alec Embry won the distance medley relay in 11:21.40.

Also for the Bull Dog boys, Michael Behling finished second in the 60 hurdles (8.71). Chase Millwood took third in the pole vault (10-6), and North was third in the 4×800 relay (8:40.60).

For the girls, Arig Tong, Allison Coffey, Morgan Neal and Haley Duke won the 4×800 relay (10:38.12); and Sierra Lax, Neal, Nina Bouthier and Rachel Brougher took the distance medley relay (13:27.55). Brougher finished second (11:32.23) and Lax fourth (11:49.56) in the 3,200, and Micah Shoaf took fourth in the pole vault (8-6).

North will compete in another Hoosier State Relays qualifier  Wednesday at Indiana University. The top 24 in each event from all the HSR qualifiers from around the state are invited to the March 21 Hoosier State Relays.
