2005

The National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C., named Columbus one of its Dozen Distinctive Destinations for 2005, citing the town’s architecture, public art, historic structures, parks, festivals, shopping and wineries.

1990

Twelve-year-old Kristen Leive, a Smith Elementary School sixth-grader, outspelled 19 other elementary and middle school students to claim the title of Bartholomew County’s champion speller. She and runner-up Alison Bates advanced to the Central Indiana Spelling Bee finals at Arlington High School in Indianapolis.

1965

Dave Stillabower, Gary Cortner and Larry Shroyer of the Columbus High School basketball team were named to the All-South Central Conference team and coach Bill Stearman was named “Coach of the Year” for the third straight year.
