Columbus gasoline prices hit a new high, with some stations selling regular unleaded for $2.23 a gallon.

1990

A three-alarm fire destroyed the Big Blue Store on Central Avenue, sending thick clouds of black smoke into the air and lighting the night sky. Fire investigators were unsure what caused the fire.

1965

First National Bank of Columbus, the oldest bank in Bartholomew County, planned special open houses to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
