Woman accused of attempting to take $900 in merchandise

A local woman was arrested after she was accused of attempting to steal more than $900 worth of merchandise from Carson’s department store.

Columbus Police Officer Clayton Nolting was sent to Carson’s, 2104 25th St., at about 7 p.m. Wednesday where store security told him that Tina M. Spears, 39, 1804 Home Ave., had been detained, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Store security employees told Nolting that Spears had selected a large amount of merchandise and left the store without paying for the items, Harris said. Spears was combative with store security before they restrained her in handcuffs, Harris said.

Spears was arrested on charges of theft and three Bartholomew County warrants, Harris said.
