Memorial Day ceremonies honored Bartholomew County’s only Vietnam MIA, Pfc. Charles Dennis Chomel of Columbus, by the placing of a headstone for him at the POW-MIA Plaza which was renamed the Robert D. Garton Veterans Plaza, honoring the senator for his service in the Marine Corps.

Captains John and Rachel Klammer, commanding officers of The Salvation Army of Columbus, announced they would relocate to serve in similar positions in Pontiac, Illinois.

Construction, mechanical and electrical contracts totaling $155,706 were awarded to three local firms, Taylor Brothers Construction, Dunlap and Co. and Otto Electric, for work on a new center wing to be built at Columbus High School.
