The Migratory Birds Conservation Commission in Washington, D.C., authorized the establishment of a 7,922-acre game preserve in Jackson and Jennings counties between Seymour and North Vernon to be known as Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge.

The Social Security Administration approved Bartholomew County Hospital to serve people eligible for Medicare, the government health insurance, set to begin July 1.
