Sherman Charles Lucas Jr., 93, a longtime resident of Columbus, died quietly in Mooresville, Indiana, at the home of his son, Jerry “Mike” Lucas, Tuesday, August 30, 2016.

Sherman was born July 21, 1923, in Linton, Indiana. He was the eldest of four sons of Sherman Lucas Sr. and Clara Smith Lucas. He married Doris Mae Brannan Lucas Nov. 16, 1944.

Sherman was a longtime employee of and retired from Reliance Electric. He served in the U.S. Army in the Phillipines during World War II.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. graveside Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Garland Brook Cemetery with Mike Lucas, Gregory Lucas and Cynthia Keever officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Calling will be from 9 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Survivors include his sons, Mike (Mary) Lucas of Mooresville and Gregory C. (Elaine) Lucas of Bloomington; a daughter, Cynthia L. (Matthew) Keever of Sheridan, Indiana; son-in-law, Herbert Richardson of Columbus; brother, Robert Lucas of Seymour; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; daughter, Janet Sue Lucas Richardson; and brothers, Norman Lucas and Willis Lucas.
