The Rev. Harry E. Acton, 77, of Columbus, died at 11:35 a.m. Friday, September 23, at Kindred Health and Rehabilitation.

Harry was born April 13, 1939, in Bartholomew County, Indiana, the son of David and Martha (Fendley) Acton. He married Carolyn S. McKain on Sept. 27, 1957. She survives.

The Rev. Acton pastored for over 30 years, 10 churches on the Nazarene Southwestern Indiana district. He also retired from Walmart in 2013. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Columbus, Indiana, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Soloman officiating. Calling will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service time Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nazarene World Mission Society through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; a son, David W. (Nancy) Acton of Monk’s Corner, South Carolina; daughters, Sherry L. (Rev. Terry) Kinnett of Port Orange, Florida, Kimberly Brock of Nashville, Indiana, and Teresa (Tim) Brock of Trafalgar, Indiana; a sister, Nina (Dan) Richardson of Westport, Indiana; ten grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Laverne Perko.
