Columbus Board of Works approved the demolition of the aging green building that had stood near First and Brown streets since 1910 and had been empty for 10 years.

April Anderson of North Vernon, mother of Timothy Anderson, an Army medic in Tikrit, Iraq, and her aunt, Margo Hughey, established a successful campaign to raise funds for protective flame-resistant hoods and gloves to be sent to U.S. troops.

With many local residents getting their second long weekend in a row, local law enforcement officers urged drivers to use extreme caution as Columbus and the neighboring area prepared to “close shop” for the New Year’s observance.
