Former State Sen. Bob Garton of Columbus received the First Freedom Award from the Hoosier State Press Association in recognition of his work in improving media access records and promoting open government.


Herbert Reese and Willis Hagen, longtime Columbus educators, were given Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.’s Education Hall of Fame Award.


Cummins Engine Co. announced between 500 and 600 of the company’s 5,380 production employees would be placed on lay-off status at the end of the week due to a decline in the sales volume of heavy-duty trucks.
