Doris I. Armstrong, 81, of Columbus, died at 1:37 p.m. May 22, 2017, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Doris was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Columbus, the daughter of Roy and Ruby Gates Lambert. She married David Eugene Armstrong June 18, 1954, and he preceded her in death June 14, 2016.

She was a graduate of Columbus High School and a minister’s wife for over 50 years. She worked as a secretary for the University of Tennessee, a teacher’s aide at Northside Middle School and as an x-ray technician. Doris was a pianist, an organist and a folk-art painter.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at East Columbus Christian Church with Ron Bridgewater officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the East Columbus Christian Church through the funeral home.

Survivors include her daughter, Dianna (David) Wilson of Columbus; granddaughter, Michelle Kunk of Columbus; a step-grandson; and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; an infant son; two infant daughters; and three brothers.
