Melissa K. Schmidt, 65, of Bloomington, passed away at her family home early Saturday morning.
Melissa was born in Columbus, to Kenneth and Patricia Nanney.
Melissa grew up in Elizabethtown, and graduated from Columbus High School. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University and proceeded to work there for over 30 years.
Melissa dedicated her life to caring for her family and treasured spending time with her two granddaughters. She enjoyed old movies, blues music and family vacations to the beach and mountains. She spent countless hours outdoors caring for her plants and enjoying nature. Melissa was a loving wife and mother, and a fun grandmother. She will be forever treasured by the family she leaves behind.
Melissa will be dearly missed by her mother, Patricia Schnier of Columbus; son, Ryan Schmidt, and daughter, Vanessa Schmidt of Bloomington; granddaughters, Jocelyn Schmidt and Lilianna Conley of Bloomington brother, Kevin Nanney of Mooresville; and many more family members and friends.
Melissa was preceded in death by her grandmother Dorothy Smith, father Kenneth Nanney, and beloved husband of 43 years Russell Schmidt.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
