Bernie Wesley Davis

FARMVILLE, N.C.

Bernie Wesley Davis, born January 31, 1957 in Columbus, to Dan and Mary Martin Davis, departed this earthly life November 10, 2017 at the Vidant Inpatient Hospice with his family by his side.

Memorial service will be held Sunday, November 19, at 2 p.m. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel by Chaplain Lee Hendricks.

Bernie grew up and attended school in Columbus, then served our country in the Army National Guard.

He later worked as a guide at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, where he combined his love of nature with a way to contribute to its conservation.

Bernie was a master craftsman and was employed for over two decades as a superintendent of construction and special projects. Bernie contributed his talents to the building of many banks, offices, restaurants and churches across the Eastern and Piedmont regions of North Carolina.

Most recently Bernie was employed by Pitt County Government and truly loved each day he spent with his “work family” at Pitt County Buildings and Grounds.

He was an avid fisherman and gardener who loved sharing his hobbies with family, friends and neighbors.

He enjoyed many happy times at the beach and river where he was closest to nature.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Martin Robbins.

He is survived by his wife, Lea Layne Hinson Davis of the home; father, Dan Davis of Raleigh; daughter, Tabitha Davis of Raleigh, son, Bernie Davis Jr. of Raleigh; stepson, Dylan Harris of Greenville; sisters, Dixie Maddrey of Wake Forrest and Anna Lancaster of Bell Arthur; brother, Marty Robbins of Raleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
