Claiming to be Hurricane Katrina victims, two Georgia men dressed as women were arrested for identity deception and passing more than $3,000 in fake checks to purchase electronics equipment at area department stores.


A seven-car pile up on Interstate 65 just north of the State Road 46 interchange and a five-car accident near Hartsville were just two of numerous traffic accidents blamed on icy roads and bridges coupled with dense fog.


Columbus residents were warned to brace for bitter cold weather overnight as frigid Arctic air moved into the area following a day of pounding rain that flooded streets and stalled motorists in bumper-deep water during the evening rush hour.
