John H. Currey

COLUMBUS

John H. Currey, 91, of Columbus passed peacefully in his sleep at Four Seasons Health Care on January 12, 2018.

John was born September 4, 1926 in Shinnston, West Virginia, the son of Hugh and Ocie (Stark) Currey.

He married Sarah Ann Wells July 1, 1950 at First Christian Church in Columbus.

John was a World War II Army veteran and served at the end of the war in Japan.

He went to electronics school in Louisville and then worked at WCSI in Columbus where he met his bride of 67 years.

He later took a management position at Arvin Industries and retired after 37 years of service.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Columbus, St. John’s Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and Columbus Eagles Lodge.

John is survived by his wife, Sarah of Columbus; children, Chris (Tommy) Hart of Charleston, Missouri and Dave (Debbie) Currey of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Ben Currey, Rebecca (Mathan) Francois and Julie (Nathan) Bowyer; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Four Seasons Retirement Center Chapel. Calling will be from 10 a.m. to service time. The family will host a reception at Four Seasons following the service. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
