Expected to announce its fourth-straight record year, Cummins Inc. officials said the company would add 500 professional jobs to its workforce in Columbus, and to alleviate space constraints at local facilities would move 500 office workers into the new Commons Mall by early 2009.

Area locksmiths told Columbus Board of Public Works and Safety that the practice of Columbus Police and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s officers unlocking car doors for free was costing their businesses thousands of dollars a year in lost income.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources issued a warning to not eat dead fish, livestock or wildlife found along Driftwood or Big Blue rivers as cyanide from a railroad tanker ruptured in an accident near New Castle flowed downstream toward Columbus.
