2008

An unusual January wind storm with winds at least 50 mph dropped temperatures 20 degrees, downed trees and power lines and left more than 3,000 homes without electricity in Bartholomew County and surrounding counties.

1993

Arkady Orlovsky, principal cellist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, was named conductor of Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

1968

Flashing overhead traffic signals were installed for the first time at Eighth and Franklin streets in an effort to reduce the number of accidents there; 10 in the previous year, eight of which were caused by motorists who ran stop signs on Eighth Street.
