Two Columbus schools, North Star Montessori School and First Presbyterian Preschool, opened new child care programs in answer to increasing local demand since the closing of Nancy’s Nook and Nursery after the June 7 flood.

With less than a week before school was to start, Columbus City Council members tackled a traffic snarl problem at Lillian C. Schmitt Elementary School.

Mayor Eret Kline reported the city had acquired property near Griffin Industries along White River to help relieve the overflowing conditions at the city dump, but Griffin owners said the announcement was premature since the city had not met the company’s list of conditions and requirements.
