Before Steve Gobert became the football coach at Columbus North, he had a storied athletic career at Bloomington High School.

Last week, Gobert was selected for induction into the Monroe County Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony is July 12 at the Monroe County Convention Center.

“There are a lot of fine athletes that certainly had some very outstanding accomplishments,” Gobert said. “So I’m very humbled to be among that group.”

Gobert competed in football, wrestling and baseball at Bloomington. His senior year, the school won the 1968 state football championship, the 1969 state wrestling title and was state runner-up in baseball in 1969.

Gobert went on to play linebacker for the Indiana University football team. He was head coach at North from 1989-99, winning the school’s first sectional title in 1989.
