Police arrested six people Monday during a narcotics investigation involving drug activity at a local home.
Officers from the Columbus Police Department Intelligence Led Policing Unit conducted a traffic stop near Seventh Street and Central Avenue and later arrested Elizabeth A. Burton, 32, of Columbus after locating methamphetamine and a controlled substance in her car, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Officers also arrested Christopher L. Tays, 32, of Franklin, on several charges including two local warrants and an out-of-county warrant after stopping his vehicle near 17th Street and Gladstone Avenue, Harris said.
A Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department canine later alerted to the odor of narcotics in Tays’ vehicle and while searching the car, officers reportedly located marijuana as well as a Suboxone strip prior to transporting Tays to jail, Harris said.
A short time later, officers stopped a vehicle driven by Jonathan P. Blair, 29, of Columbus. While speaking to Blair and his passengers, Ryan S. Hollman 31, of Hope and Victor N. Burton, 57, of Columbus, a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department canine was requested and later alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, Harris said. A search of the vehicle yielded nearly 30 grams of methamphetamine.
Officers and investigators from the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team executed a search warrant Monday evening on a detached garage behind 2134 Caldwell Place. During a search of the garage, investigators reportedly located methamphetamine, heroin, controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and narcotics packaging material, Harris said.
Officers arrested Christopher D. Battin, 33, who resides at 2134 Caldwell Place, Harris said.
All persons involved in this case were transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were remanded with 48 hour holds on the following preliminary charges:
- Elizabeth A. Burton: Possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule IV substance
- Christopher L. Tays: Two Bartholomew County warrants, one out-of-county warrant, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance
- Ryan S. Hollman: Dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, visiting a common nuisance
- Victor N. Burton: Dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, visiting a common nuisance
- Jonathan P. Blair: Possession of methamphetamine, visiting a common nuisance
- Christopher D. Battin: Dealing in cocaine or a narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of drug paraphernalia
