Berne

Dr. James G. McCrory, 91, Berne, Indiana, passed away on June 11, 2016, in Columbus, Indiana. He was born to J. LaDoyt and Agnes Habegger McCrory on June 1, 1925, in Adams County, Indiana. He married Doris Kyle on September 10, 1948, in Bluffton, Indiana.

Dr. McCrory was a member of First Mennonite Church where he was active on various committees. James, a retired Berne dentist of 43 years, was active in civic affairs, served on city council, was a member of Berne Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce and was an Eagle Scout.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World Ward II.

Jim was past president of the Issac Knapp Dental Society and was appointed to the State Board of Dental Examiners for nine years. He was recipient of the Sagamore of Wabash award and received the Distinguished Award from the State Dental Board. Jim was an avid fan of Indiana University sports and Yankees baseball. He loved to fish, especially in Canada where he made an annual trip for 25 years. His greatest pleasure came from spending time with his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandi Cole of Bloomington, Indiana, and Heidi(Steve)Ahrmann of Columbus, Indiana; a son, Jack (Milka) McCrory of Bloomington, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Brad Cole (Elizabeth), Katrina McCrory, Natalie Granger (Frank), Brea Brewer-York (Stacy), Clint Ahrmann (Penny), Calli Johnson (Nate) and Hayli Bush(Brandon); 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Balsiger of Berne; and a brother, Charles K. McCrory of Terre Haute, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris, who died in 2008.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at First Mennonite Church in Berne with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger will officiate. Visitation also will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery and military graveside rites will be conducted by Berne American Legion Post  No. 468.
