Morris Edward Piper Sr., 71, of Columbus, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at his home.

Born in Columbus on October 1, 1945, Morris was the son of John and Mary Bennett Piper. He had worked as a machine operator for Dolly Madison for 25 years. He enjoyed bowling, cooking, fishing, NASCAR races, Indy Car races, gardening and playing card games with his kids and grandkids.

Morris is survived by his children, Charlene Piper, Columbus, Christina (Joshua) Burton, Beech Grove, Caren Piper, Terry (Angela) Piper and Morris Piper Jr., all of Columbus; his sister, Cathy Johnson, Columbus; several nieces and nephews; and his fiancée, Krista Simms.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Piper; a brother, David Piper; and his wife, Betty Jean Piper.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 11 a.m. until the celebration of life at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017, in the Revival Tabernacle Church in Clifford with Brother Eli Johnson presiding. In keeping with Morris’ wishes, cremation is planned.

Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street is handling the arrangements.
