North Vernon
Naomi Ruth Marksberry, 87, of North Vernon, died at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2017, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. The Rev. Sherman Beville will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Born Oct. 19, 1929, in Nineveh, she was the daughter of John C. and Minnie Pearl Hines Rockey. She married Cecil Marksberry. He preceded her in death.
Ruth was the sexton of Hillcrest Cemetery along with her husband for 40 years. She had been attending Scipio United Methodist Church and was a member of Coffee Creek Conservation Club. She dearly loved spending time and talking with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bingo and going to casinos.
She is survived by sons, David Rockey of North Vernon, Melvin, Larry and Rick Marksberry of North Vernon; daughters, Donna “Susie” Gaines of North Vernon, Brenda Smith of Burn, Indiana, and Peggy Meadows of Brownstown; sisters, Delores “Bill” Dixon, Marilyn Brown, Wilma Grider and Edna Ernstes of North Vernon; a brother, Joe Rockey of Ohio; 22 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one infant daughter, Ruthann Marksberry.
