Franklin
Roy McGaha, 87, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Christine, Kentucky, to Otis “Peck” McGaha and Lily (Burton) McGaha. He married Lula J. (Burton) McGaha on July 5, 1952, in Christine, Kentucky, and they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He had worked for Cosco in Columbus 43 years in manufacturing, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, which his parents co-founded and where he had been a song leader and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening, mowing grass, sports – especially basketball – and spending time with his family.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lula J. (Burton) McGaha; children, Marcia Whited (Garnet) of Greenwood, Sheila Doyle and Vickie Sinclair (David), both of Franklin, Loretta Ridpath (Troy) of Edinburgh and Richard McGaha (April) of Edinburgh; a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline L. “Jackie” (Whited) McGaha of Franklin; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Randall Lee “Randy” McGaha, on Jan. 2, 2016; brothers, Edward, Osbert, Eugene, Ondia, W.E. and Vernon McGaha; and a sister, Eva Bryant.
The Revs. Jimmy Polston and Danny Bailey will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S. Main St., Edinburgh. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
