Officials approve paving contract, $689,764 for Phase 2 of overlay project

Thirteen different areas within Bartholomew County will soon get new asphalt under planned improvements being made through the county’s overlay program.

Bartholomew County commissioners approved a $689,764.02 contract Monday with Milestone Contractors for Phase 2 of its overlay program, which calls for new pavement on 12.5 miles of roads. The county recently was awarded $836,012 through the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Community Crossings program to fund highway improvement.

Bartholomew County Engineer Danny Hollander said previously that the remaining $146,248 will be either be used to reimburse the county for work already completed this year or rolled over into the 2018 overlay program. Hollander said Monday that he expects work to begin soon, depending on Milestone’s schedule.

“Hopefully it’ll be done before the end of November,” Hollander said.

Bartholomew County Commissioner Carl Lienhoop said he is thankful the county received the funding through the Community Crossings program.

“Milestone will push ahead on paving as hard as it can,” he said.
