NORTH VERNON
Roy Logan Mitchell Jr., 71, of North Vernon, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017 at his residence.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. The Rev. James Terry will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
Born April 22, 1946, in Scottsburg, Roy was the son of the late Roy and Esther Barnard Mitchell Sr.
He graduated from Columbus High School.
He married Leila Jines Mitchell on June 18, 1966. She preceded him in death.
Roy worked for 33 years at Cummins.
He was a member of North Vernon Wesleyan Church.
He enjoyed raising cattle, collecting models, working, gospel music and being with his grandkids.
He is survived by a son, Stephen (Erin) Mitchell of Dupont; three daughters, Deborah (Glen) Carney of North Vernon, Amelia Suhre of North Vernon, and Amanda (David) Bryant of Dupont; five brothers, Tom (Joyce) Mitchell of Richmond, Roger (Becky) Mitchell of Dupont, James (Peggy) Mitchell of Columbus, John (Sheila) Mitchell of Columbus and David (Tena) Mitchell of Columbus; a sister, Mayra (Mark) Zigler of Taylorsville; and seven grandchildren, Ryan Mitchell, Madelyn Suhre, Tiernan Carney, Zoie Suhre, Dalton Mitchell, Kamron Carney and Stephany Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Esther Mitchell Sr., his wife, Leila; and a sister, Juanita Lowman.
