Columbus native Jack Lawless and his wife, Rebecca Mae, recently won the 2018 Modern Country Duo of the Year award at the the Josie Music Awards.

The Josie Music Awards is the largest award show for independent artists worldwide and across all genres. Lawless and Mae were invited to perform during the ceremony, which was held Sept. 8 at Dollywood Celebrity Theater, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, according to a news release.

The residents of Nashville, Tennessee, also were nominees for Entertainer of the Year Duo and Vocalist of the Year Duo.

They perform original material that is played on radio stations worldwide; solos from renowned artists such as Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings; and songs by Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood, for example, a news release said.

Lawless has opened for artists such as Kenny Rogers, Ronnie Milsap and Ronnie McDowell. Mae, an award winning vocalist who is originally from New Hampshire, has performed across the country, a news release said.

“Even though performing on stages across the country and Canada, all my life I still look forward to coming back to my roots in Columbus,” Lawless said.

Lawless and Mae tour extensively and are working on an international tour for 2019, according to a news release.
