Entries for the Mill Race Marathon have increased by more than 500 in the last week, and race organizers say the total number is similar to this time last year.

The seventh annual Mill Race Marathon weekend in Columbus is three weeks away.

The Kids Fun Run is Sept. 27 in Mill Race Park, and the marathon, half-marathon and 5K races are Sept. 28, with the courses taking runners through downtown and other parts of the city.

As of Wednesday, entries for the marathon, half-marathon, 5K and Kids Fun Run races totaled 3,023. A year ago on Sept. 5, entries stood at 3,126.

Entries this year for each of the four events trail last year’s totals slightly:

  • Marathon: 222 entrants compared to 227 a year ago
  • Half-marathon: 1,338 compared to 1,363 in 2018
  • 5K: 1,105 compared to 1,171 a year ago
  • Kids Fun Run: 358 compared to 365 in 2018

Marathon organizers conducted Columbus Hype Day on Aug. 28 to promote the event in advance of the next price increase for the registration fee. A total of 508 people registered in the week that followed, avoiding the price hike.

While only 12 more people registered for the marathon, the 5K attracted an additional 232, the half-marathon 180 and the Kids Fun Run 84.

Historically, total entries for the Mill Race Marathon this year are comparable to all other years — within 190 — except for the inaugural event and 2016.
