Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting has released year-end data on deaths in the county, which show increases in overdose deaths and deaths by suicide.
Drug overdose deaths were at 23 in 2019, up from 17 deaths the previous year, Nolting reported.
There were 16 deaths by suicide in 2019, which is up from 11 deaths by suicide in 2018.
Nolting said the coroner’s office also investigated five infant deaths in 2019, which is an unusually high number for the county. There were two infant deaths that were coroner’s cases in 2018 and three in 2017.
