The construction of a $41.3 million wastewater treatment plant to improve capacity and energy consumption, a project that began exactly one year earlier, was on schedule for completion in mid-to-late 2011.

1995

Columbus Rotary Club’s cabin at Columbus Youth Camp was renamed for 59-year member Orphie Bridges in honor of his lifetime involvement in helping to build the camp and his service to the community.

1970

As part of the observance of the county’s sesquicentennial in 1971, a “history committee” headed by Mildred Murray asked businesses and industries throughout the county to submit their firms’ histories to be included in a new local history book, the first to be published since 1888.
