NORTH VERNON

Wayne D. Chilman, 86, of North Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at his residence.

Born March 21, 1934, in Platte, South Dakota, he was the son of Claus and Ellen (Knudsen) Chilman. He married Eva Ann Smith on August 24, 1962, at the Morgantown Christian Church in Morgantown; she survives.

Wayne was a 1952 graduate of North Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1988 from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus. Wayne was a former member of North Vernon Presbyterian Church and participated in the Greensburg Power of the Past Antique Tractor Show, having received a plaque for 29 years of participation. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing euchre, and eating ice cream. Wayne liked attending antique tractor shows, flea markets, and auctions.

Surviving with his wife, Eva Ann, are his children, Candace (Steve) Miller of Niceville, Florida, Larry (Karen) Chilman and Jerry (Kim) Chilman, both of Commiskey; brothers, Kenneth (Eunice) Chilman of Cobden, Illinois and Marlo (Alice) Chilman of Washington; sister, Jane (Jim) Hamblen of North Vernon; grandchildren, Donnie (Linda) Miller, Lauren (Alex) Kirchner, and Bailee (Thomas) Taylor, all of North Vernon, Eddie (Rachel) Miller and David Miller, both of Freeport, Florida, Logan (Lauren) Chilman and Linnea Chilman, both of Commiskey, and Luke Chilman of Osgood; and great-grandchildren, Beau Franklin Kirchner of North Vernon and August Daniel Chilman of Commiskey.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private service will be conducted Tuesday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with burial in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in honor of Wayne through the funeral home to the hospice of the donor’s choice or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
