FRANKLIN, IN.

Denny G. Cottongim 92 of Franklin, IN passed away Tuesday December 29, 2020 at the Indiana Masonic Home at Compass Park in Franklin, IN. He was born November 16, 1928 in Dayton, OH to Boyd Burchell Cottongim and Matilda Myrtle (Whitaker) Cottongim. He married Rovene (Rich) Cottongim on July 24, 1953, she survives. He was a longtime retired farmer in Johnson County and in the Ogilville Community of Bartholomew County, IN. He was a United States Navy Veteran. He previously had worked at several positions including a police officer with the City of Greenwood and service station business. He was a member of Second Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Franklin, IN and Bethel Baptist Church in Columbus, IN. He taught Sunday School classes, sang in church choir, served as Deacon for many years. He was instrumental in initiating the Prison Ministry at Atterbury Correctional Facility. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife Rovene (Rich) Cottongim of Franklin, IN, two sons Derek J. Cottongim (Debbi) of Franklin, IN and Boyd R. Cottongim (Cindy) of Franklin, IN, grandchildren Alanie Flack, Kyle Cottongim, Sarah Brutus, Dacey Bridges, Rebecca Cottongim, Ben Cottongim, Brett Cottongim and Katie Cottongim, 9 great grandchildren and one brother, Doyle Cottongim of Albany, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Helen Cottongim and Lois Clark and brother Delmar Cottongim. Pastors Gerald Holmes and Wally Jeffs will conduct a private service for family members on Sunday January 3, 2020 at 5PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN with military honors being conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard to follow and will be live streamed for family and friends to connect at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/denny-cottongim.
