COLUMBUS

Martha Lou Poer, 82, of Columbus, passed away at 7:02 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Martha was born October 4, 1938, in Columbus, Indiana, the daughter of Bulie Owens and Gladys Cohee Perdue. On September 3, 1983, she married Harold Poer.

Mrs. Poer worked for Dorel Juvenile Group for over 20 years before retiring. She volunteered for several years at the Lincoln Central Neighborhood Family Center, shucking corn. In fact, she even earned the nickname “mother shucker”. Martha was immensely enjoyed by her grandchildren and looked forward to attending breakfast with them. She enjoyed making Kraft spaghetti and it became her specialty. Going on ocean cruises with her family, multiple times, was something Martha truly looked forward to doing. She loved the sun and relaxing afternoon conversations on the porch with her neighbors, Sammy and Marge – along with her dog, Muffy. Helping her family out anyway that she could was rewarding to Martha. She will be greatly missed by those that knew her.

Survivors include her children, Donald Christian of Sarasota, Florida, Dennis (Debbie) Christian, Roger (Angela) Christian, Nancy (Bill) Battin, all of Columbus; grandchildren, Daniel (Christina) Christian of Florida, Pam (Darren) Fields of North Vernon, Nicole (Joe) Baumann of Taylorsville, Jamie (Adam Grimes) Kuntz, Stephanie (Josh) Breeden, Elizabeth Christian, Mathew Christian, all of Columbus, Bradley Battin of Indianapolis, Christopher (Cherri) Battin, Tyler (Brittany) Battin, both of Columbus; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Perdue; sister, Vernie Shehan, both of Columbus; several nieces and nephews and first husband, Edward Christian of Ozark, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2nd husband, Harold Poer; grandson, Jacob Battin; great-grandchildren, Katlyn Anderson, Dylan Christian; three brothers and two sisters.
